Digital Transformation and Digital Skills Center (DT&S) - CISCO
Thessaloniki International Summer Media Academy 2021 will be a hybrid event, since the participants will have the chance to join it either onsite or online, during 16th to 23th of July 2021. For those who have the chance to participate physically, THISAM 2021 will take place onsite in Digital Transformation and Digital Skills Center, located in the old municipal slaughterhouse of Thessaloniki.
Built in 1896-97, the old municipal slaughterhouse functioned as such until 1988, with a short break between 1978-1980, when it was temporarily shut down to repair damages caused by the 1978 earthquake. In 1994, the building was listed as an architectural monument, being a typical example of late 19th - early 20th century industrial architecture. Located in the industrial and commercial port area of the city, the old municipal slaughterhouse was among the innovations that carried Thessaloniki into a new era of financial growth, back in the late 19th century. Similarly, following its recent refurbishment according to the original plans and materials, the building is now operating as a Digital Transformation and Digital Skills Center (DT&S).
DT&S was established in June 2020 by Cisco in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Ministry of Digital Government and the Ministry of Development and Investment, under the auspices of the Office of the Prime Minister in Thessaloniki.
Its purpose is to enhance innovation and digital skills, accelerate digital transformation and promote the digital culture. More specifically, at the Center, Cisco with the support of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the academic community and start-ups, will create teams that will analyze, design and propose solutions that concern any area of economic and social life. At the same time, the Center has a training department - Cisco Networking Academy (www.netacad.com) - as well as STEM and Robotics departments, which aim to enhance the digital skills of students and professionals who want to acquire specialization in these fields.
