
Dr. Wael Abdelal
Assistant Professor, Mass Communication Department, Qatar University
Dr. Wael Abdelal received his PhD from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom in 2012 and joined the Mass Communication Department at Qatar University in 2019. He has extensive teaching and practical experience and has held various academic positions, including Head of the Media and Communication Technology Program at the University College of Applied Sciences in Palestine, Visiting Scholar at Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College, and adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at the Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff Academy.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Abdelal has undertaken consulting work, such as developing curricula for media and communication departments in Palestine, and has worked as a trainer, speaker, and member at the Press House, Palestine. He is a member of the National Initiative to Develop Media in Palestine and has received a research grant from the Swedish government to research digital diplomacy and its prospects in foreign policy. He has published a book with Routledge, as well as many refereed scientific articles, and writes regularly in Qatari newspapers.
Dr. Abdelal has participated in numerous conferences, workshops, and seminars. His current research interests include digital diplomacy, media strategy, and the digital media strategies of non-state actors in political conflict environments. He also serves on several committees at Qatar University, with a focus on curriculum development, integrating fact-checking into journalism education, and training students.
